Eye On The Prize
Dawn Cole
Have you ever tried to walk in a straight line or to a certain place while looking somewhere else? While
not impossible, it can be tricky. Even if you start off looking at your destination, if you take your eyes
off of it, you end up somewhere other than where you wanted to go.
So it is with God. We must keep our eyes on him to get to our destination. Our eyes cannot be looking
elsewhere judging or coveting our neighbors’ lives. Our eyes must be on Jesus if we ever hope to hear
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
In a similar way, as homeschoolers, our eyes must be on our child’s destination. Where do we want our
children to be on that day when they are no longer our student? What kind of person do we want them to
be? Homeschooling is not the easy road. Some days are down right hard. I’m sure I am not the only one
who has thought, “I’m not sure I can do this anymore”.
We must keep our eyes on the prize. Every year at the CHEA convention I am reminded of this. During
the opening session, CHEA presents scholarships to a young man and young lady who have recently
graduated from their homeschool. They stand at the podium with their parents and give a small speech of
acceptance. Almost always, they thank the Lord and their parents. There is no blue hair, strange
piercings, or superior attitude. They display a Christian character far above what I see in a majority of
their public school counterparts. That is what I want for my children.
To be honest I don’t care what my children or their spouses choose to do for a living. As long as they
love the Lord I know the rest will fall into place.
Keep your eye on the prize!
